The Ride for Ribs
Litchfield Ill, Memphis Tn, West Plains Mo

The conversation went something like this ...

Greg: "You ever hear of a place called Charlie Vergo's Rendezvou?"
Doug: "Yep, saw that place on the food network, GOOD ribs"
Greg: "What do you say we jump on the bikes and get some?"
Doug: "How far is it?"
Greg: "Not sure, couple hundred miles"
Doug: "It's got to be over 600."
Greg: "Puss!"
Doug: "Ok, I'm in."
Dinger "Me too."

And the ride was on!

I remember when sex was safe and motorcycles weren't!

That was it when planning the trip. Greg selected a date that fell on my wife's birthday, Doh! However, Greg being my wife's brother, he said she would understand. And being the understanding and loving wife that she is, she did.
That was the it, 630 miles to Charlie Vergos' in Memphis for ribs. We planed on some interstate driving the first day and we knew we needed to be home by Sunday. That would give us 4 days on the bikes. And beyond that, we made the route up when ever we ran low on fuel.

Tuesday Sept 5
I leave Des Moines around 6:00am on the bike (BMW K1200LT) to work a couple days in Wisconsin. I-35 north out of Des Moines to Hwy20 east thru Dubuque and Madison on Hwy 151.  Cool in the morning but sunny and nice day to ride. Check in to the usual Comfort Inn in Jackson, Wisconsin. I have 400 miles in by 1:00pm.

Wednesday Sept 6th
After working the morning I hit the road to meet up with Greg (Yamaha Royal Star) and Dinger (Honda Goldwing), I-43 to I-45 to I-39. And we meet at exit 111 on I-39 just south of Rockford (Davis Junction, Ill). A couple "how you been" hand shakes and we're on the way. Second straight day of good weather, afternoon heat in the low 80s.

First stop for fuel

We had a "nice" 5 min shower around Springfield, Ill. Actually felt good to cool us off.

Does Greg smoke?

397 miles of interstate to Litchfield Ill where we select a Super 8 motel and a Ponderosa steak house for super. Then there was a long walk to get beer. Tell we again why you didn't ride the bikes?
